In His Image: Embracing Ourselves Instead of Hating Ourselves

Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.” Oh how thankful I am that He chose to create us in His image. That in and of itself makes every single person absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately in the world we live in we are constantly being bombarded by all media (magazines, tv, movies, commercials, clothing and even cosmetic ads) and the media tells us lies. The media tells us we must look a certain way to be accepted and anyone who steps out of the mold is weird and looked down upon. The media is a huge advocate and strong opening for Satan to whisper lies and doubts into our heads. So, I propose that instead of giving into the lies of Satan and the media we fight to speak the truth that God has made us and we are beautiful. Having said that, I believe that does not mean we can sit down and say, It is finished, I am beautiful, I am God’s creation. The end.” God has called us to do more and to take care of our body. 1 Corinthians 6:20 says, “You were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 says, “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred and you together are that temple.” We are God’s temple, we are sacred! Wow, take that in for a second. We should have a deep want and desire to treat our bodies with respect and love because God’s temple deserves that. So, Love God’s temple, love who He has created in His own image, LOVE YOURSELF!
