The Lord Is: My Portion and My Strength

It’s another Ellie Holcomb day/post. It is so refreshing to be able to put on her music and not only feel free of worrying if my son can listen, but to feel encouraged and hear God’s word through song as I go about my day. It really is a blessing and before I begin this post I have to share with you how excited I am for September 27! So, I found out a month or two ago that Ellie is actually coming to my hometown and my sweet sweet friend bought me tickets to go see her because she knows how much I love her music! It was my birthday present (my birthday is on Sunday), and my friend was so sweet and funny. She called me and said, “I may or may not have bought you tickets to some concert that you may or may not be wanting to go see so don’t buy anything.” Even when I shrieked and said, “You got me Ellie Holcomb tickets!!!” She tried to act like she wasn’t going to say one way or another. So, anyways I semi-apologize for the overload of Ellie Holcomb videos but I don’t because they encourage my heart and if you really listen to her songs I believe they will do the same for you! So here is Ellie Holcomb singing “My Portion and My Strength” and I will post the lyrics below the video.

Your voice calmed the wind and the sea

Can you calm these storms inside of me?
Help me to stand
on the promise that You are holding my right hand
Help me to know
that even when I lose my grip You won’t let go
Help me believe
that You will be my portion and my strength

Your voice gave the blind the gift of sight
Can you take my darkness and turn it into light?
Help me to stand
on the promise that You are holding my right hand
Help me to know
that even when I lose my grip You won’t let go
Help me believe
that You will be my portion and my strength

Oooh

You’ll be my portion and my strength

Oooh

Your voice called the man out of the grave
Can You breathe new life into this mess I’ve made?
Help me believe
that You will be my portion and my strength
Help me believe
that You will be my portion and my strength

You’ll be my portion and my strength”

There are so many songs I could have posted on today, but I chose this one because I so often forget that He is enough. I forget that He is my portion and that He is where I find my strength. Lamentations 3:22-24 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.‘” It is so easy for me to focus on the things in life that I don’t have or the things that I want, but I overlook how sufficient the Lord is and how He is my portion. This song reminds me that He is my portion, He is enough for me. I chase after the things of the world, and while I think it is okay to have wants and it is okay to own the latest gadgets or whatever, I think it becomes easy to lose sight that Jesus is more than enough. That, He is our portion and at the end of the day He really is all that we need. The same thing goes for finding strength in the Lord. It is so easy to feel weak and run down and just flat out tired. I love the idea of remembering He is our portion and strength because it takes off the pressure on us, we can be human and make mistakes, and get tired and know that it is okay because He is where we find our portion and our strength.

Very good singing and song. I found it especially helpful to me because of my recent loss.
