So, I think many of you have seen this picture circulating around before, and I love it because although it seems so pointed and meant to send a message to children, it is so much more than that! It is so easy to hold on to things and to want to have full control of every aspect of our life. So, the idea of handing things over to the Lord and saying, “here, I trust you Lord, You give and take away and I want what you would have for me.” So, I was thinking I would share with you guys 5 of my favorite go-to verses when I am having a hard time I like to pull out and pray over.
1. Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This verse is my favorite, as you have heard like a million times, and is so wonderful because it is a promise that the Lord’s plans for us is for a hope and a future. The Lord loves us so very much and He wants the very best for us. If we would just come to Him and pray asking Him to reveal to us His plan to us if it be His will. If we could just have faith like a child and willing to trust our Lord with out lives and every aspect of it I truly believe we would be more at peace with our lives and we would be in His will and glorify Him in trusting Him whole heartedly.
2. Romans 8:28, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Another wonderful verse that gives me great comfort because I love God and I believe the Word of the Lord to be true and infallible so therefore I believe when it says that He works all things together for our good according to His purpose, I believe it. I know He loves me and He has my best interest at heart. Take note that it doesn’t say some things works together for good, but that ALL things do for those who love him and are called according to His purpose. I don’t know about everyone else, but when I am left to my own devices I always end up falling short and many times I think I am doing something good and it ends up all wrong. So you would think handing everything over to the Lord would be that much easier right?!? Well unfortunately it’s not because of my pride and need for control. Which is so aggravating because like in the picture above the Lord has bigger and better things for me and here I am holding onto everything of mine saying, “But Lord I don’t want to give it to you” and He is saying, “But my child, trust me. What I have in store for you is even better.”
3. Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
I know this verse may seem unrelated, however I love the last part which says, “Lean not on your own understanding”. It ties in to relinquishing control and giving yourself over to Him and trusting in Him even when you don’t understand. I know that, for me, many times this task feels impossible. I feel like from a young age we are taught to question things that we don’t understand and that we always need to have answers. However, that isn’t always the case and with our faith many times we have to do just that, have faith. At some point, to truly believe in God and accept the Scripture as truth and infallible and your compass and guide in life, you HAVE to accept that there will be questions unanswered and mysteries unsolved and so in some things we will truly have to relinquish our control and need of answers all the time.
4. Psalm 9:10, “And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.”
The Lord does not forsake those who seek Him and that in and of itself should be enough for us to give Him everything since we know that He would never forsake us or steer us wrong. As stated in the previous verses we can KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that the Lord, in His love and mercy and grace, goes a step further than just not forsaking us, He does what is good and best for us.
5. Psalm 37:5, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”
Again, I love the end of this verse that it says, “trust in Him, and He will act.” All we have to do is trust, that is ALL we have to do, and He does the rest! How awesome is our God! Anyone else seeing a theme in this?!? TRUST in HIM and HE will PROVIDE and EXCEED our expectations.
Just imagine how blessed we would be if we could give up our need of control and our pride and just leaned on Him for understanding and provision. I know how hard it can be to do this, but I know that through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit it’s possible. So, let’s go to Him together about this and ask Him for the help we so desperately need.
We come to you today with thankful hearts for all that you have done for us and we come to you today asking for your help with giving over our lives to you. Lord we know that you have our best interest at heart and we know You work things together for our good according to Your purpose. Lord, we don’t always know or understand what You have planned for us, but we know that You know all things and You will not forsake us and You love us. Lord, we are so undeserving of You and yet You still do so much for us. Please help us to remain humble and wise and always seek You and trust You even when we do not understand.
In Your powerful and wonderful name we pray,
