Monkey See, Monkey Do, Monkey Act Just Like You: How We Live and Behave Effect Our Children Directly

This is such a powerful video that it speaks for itself, and the description of the video says, ” This will change you in exactly 60 seconds”, and I have to say I have seen titles like this before and felt like it was a bit of false advertisement, but then I saw this. I watched this with no audio and even without any audio it spoke volumes, almost at a scream. It is both scary and amazing all at the same time when I think about the influence I have on my child. I am amazed and honored that I get the opportunity to mold this child but so scary when I think about all the things I have done wrong, am doing wrong, and will do wrong in the future. It is such a huge responsibility and it is something that I don’t take lightly. Not only do my actions affect him but my reactions as well and I don’t want him to be like me when I react to certain things, I want him to be slow to anger, quick to think, slow to speak, and so much more. Watching this video reminded me about the two small eyes that are watching me and taking in how I act and react and a little person who is following me around and mimics my behavior. It reminded me that as a parent, as a mother, I need to be on my toes and ever mindful of the way I act.

My child’s mortal life is so important and I want him to grow up to be a considerate, loving, kind, law-abiding man, but his eternal life is so much more important and I want to be the best example to him and I want him to grow up seeing parents who love the Lord and pursue Him in all that they do. I want them to be mimicking that and I want those moments to be the ones that far and away outweigh the  moments when our flesh get the better of us. I really like 1 Peter 5:2-3 which says, “ shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly;  not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.”  I like this verse because in a way my son is like my flock. It is my duty to be his shepherd if you will and to guide him along the right path as he grows. I want to be the best shepherd I can be and I know the best way for me to do that is to look to The Shepherd, my Savior and my God for the best example. The only 2 ways I can go about this is through reading His Word and through prayer. By His mercy and grace and through the Holy Spirit working in me is the only way change will ever occur within me.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for this day and thank you for being The Shepherd of the world. Thank you for being the one true compass that we can turn to and KNOW that we are not being led astray. Lord please forgive me for not being more attentive to Your word and more attentive in prayer. I don’t know where I have been lately but I know where I need to be and I know that in order to change the way I act and react I need You. Lord, I can’t do this on my own, but I know with You all things are possible. I want to honor and glorify You in my actions and reactions and I want my son to grow up strong in his faith and I don’t want him to ever doubt my faith in You. I want him to know you at a young age and I want him to mimic me in ways that would honor and glorify you, not in ways that would have me hiding ashamed, upset, or embarrassed. Lord, I come to You right now because I know these changes are not something I can do in and of myself, it is by Your grace and mercy that I have been saved and heard Your call and it’s only by that same mercy and grace that I am convicted and realize my need for change. Thank you for your mercy, grace, love, protection, provision, Spirit, strength, breath, thank you for everything Lord.

In Your precious name,
